Chapter 595 Taking a life-there was no doubt that's what they'd intended.
Elodie, on the other hand, was perfectly fine.
Alexander couldn't help but ask, "Did Jarrod take care of it?" Elodie nodded. "He savedlast night. It was complicated, but I didn't even get so much as a scratch. You don't need to worry." She kept her explanation brief, just enough to settle their nerves.
She summed up her encounter with Sylvie in a few concise sentences.
Esmeralda listened, wide-eyed and speechless, before finally blurting out, "Damn... Jarrod's ruthless. I mean, Sylvie used to be with him, and he just cut her off like she never mattered." As much as she despised what Sylvie had done to Elodie, Jarrod's reaction gave her chills.
Esmeralda hugged Elodie's arm, her voice tangled with worry. "Good thing you and he had a clean break, no , no mess. With someone as cunning as him, who knows how badly things could've gone if you'd tried to hold on?" It was definitely for the best they stayed apart.
She shuddered to imagine what might've happened if Elodie had refused the divorce, clung to Jarrod, and pushed him too far. A man like that..... she didn't even want to picture it.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtEsmeralda's words made Elodie pause and really consider it for the first time.
Would he have? She honestly didn't know.
But Alexander didn't think it was worth speculating. "What's done is done. You're divorced, end of story. You go your way, he goes his. There's no point in what-ifs." He stepped forward and gave Elodie a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "No need to be afraid. You're a person of considerable importance now-the higher-ups are paying attention. If Sylvie and her friends try anything, they're only digging their own graves. The stakes are much higher now. Your biggest troubles are over. It's tto look ahead." Elodie had suffered enough all these years-whether in the Harcourt household, or those two years married to Jarrod.
She knew they were worried about her.
She tilted her head and managed a small smile. "You're right." As for whatever happened to Sylvie and her crew, she could wait for the news.
Later, around noon, Elodie saw an incoming call.
She glanced at the screen, then picked up. "Hello?" A cold, restrained voice cthrough-Ivan Harcourt. "How are you? I've heard srumors that something happened to you." Elodie frowned.
She'd already blocked Ivan's number.
He must've gotten a new one just to call her.
She couldn't even be bothered to deal with him. Without saying a word, she hung up.
He was only interrupting her work.
She figured she ought to thank Andrea for yesterday. He'd risked his life ramming into that car-if it hadn't been sturdy enough, he'de' have been seriously hurt. She imagined Andrea was probably still feeling it today.
But if she wanted to thank Andrea, she'd have to go through Jarrod.
The thought made her pause.
She found herself hoping Andrea would be the one driving Jarrod's car today- then she could thank him face to face.
As for what happened last night with Sylvie and her group, the company kept things quiet, given the potential fallout.

Word got out, though.
People quickly learned Sylvie's plagiarism was a fact.
Elodie's nwas already on everyone's lips, thanks to a string of recent events-and her status as the wife of The Silverstein Group's CEO only fueled the gossip. Outrage against Sylvie ran rampant.
And the voices supporting Elodie were louder than ever.
After lunch in the Vista Link Technologies cafeteria, Elodie was just about to head back to her office when Alexander stormed over, face thunderous, and grabbed her wrist. He lowered his voice. "Something's happened." Elodie looked at him, puzzled.
Alexander took a deep breath, his expression grim. "Someone leaked it e to the mediava story just broke saying you drugged Jarrod and forced him to marry you."
