A few doctors in white coats soon entered the ward. Joseph glanced at the sleeping man on the bed, and his

When Chloe was back at the Sullivan manor, Noah went up to her with a solemn expression. "We got a call from
the prison."
Chloe was a little dumbfounded. "The prison?"
"Yes, the prison where Benjamin is locked up."
"Oh. What's the matter?"
Benjamin had disappointed her greatly five years ago. Chloe would have forgotten that she still had a father if
his nwas not brought up.
"He has cancer and only has another month to live." Noah was worried that she might be upset and almost could
not bear to say this to her. "He wants to see you one last time."
Chloe was stunned for a moment. "I don't want to see him."
What was the use? Did he want to express his regret and apologize? She found it unnecessary and meaningless.
"The prison staff toldthat he has something important to tell you."
A crease formed between Chloe’s brows. She could not figure out what he possibly had to say.
Noticing her hesitation, Noah smiled gently and suggested, "Just go. We'll waste only an hour at most. You can
show him how happy you are now."
Half an hour later, they arrived at the prison. After going through the formalities, the warden arranged for Chloe
and Noah to meet with Benjamin. He was soon brought in. Despite being only in his fifties, he walked with an
unsteady gait. His hair had turned white, coughed with every step he took, and had becextremely thin.
Chloe nearly failed to recognize him. A slight sense of discomfort hit her.
Benjamin was over the moon when he saw her. "It’s good to see you, Coco."
"What do you want to tell me?" Chloe went straight to the point.
Benjamin's face stiffened, finding it hard to speak.
Noah said coldly. "Did you lie to get Coco to chere?"
"No, I'm already in this state, so why would I lie to you guys?" Benjamin mocked himself and smiled bitterly. "I

"You don't have much time," the warden reminded him.
"Fine, I understand." Benjamin rubbed his hands together and heaved a long sigh. "It wasn't because of Karen
that | fell out with your mother."
"So, you askedto cjust so you could prove Karen's innocence?"
"No, listen to me. When your mother and | decided to elope, we went hto pack our belongings. When we
met up, | found her at a hotel. | noticed something was amiss."
Chloe felt that there was an underlying meaning to his words. "Go on."
"Someone had taken liberties with her. | never showed you love because you're not my child."
Chloe felt like she had been hit in the gut.
Noah rarely exposed his true feelings, but he too found this unbelievable. Wrath overwhelmed him and he
grabbed Benjamin by the collar and punched the latter's face.
