Chapter 240

Mia remained unfazed. "I could have one of our staff assist you, Ms. Rutherford. They're more specialized than |

am and can provide better service."

Shelley scoffed and stepped forward. "Absolutely not. Those lowly staff could never compare to you. Not that

you're anything special either, but... you are a professional horse trainer.

"You're the only horse trainer in Eldmere City who's somehow managed to get engaged to the scion of a wealthy

family. Are your staff aiming that high too?"

Shelley had always been sharp-tongued-expecting kindness from her was a lost

cause.

Angela's expression hardened. "Don't push your luck, Ms. Rutherford. Maybe you should look in the mirror and

ask yourself if you're any better."

Shelley's smile faltered, but she quickly recovered. "Isn't that a little uncalled for, Ms. Graham? | don't

understand why you'd lower yourself to befriend a mere horse trainer. And let's not forget-you didn't exactly

cfrom much either.

"You only got where you are by being a bootlicker. But at least you've been Mrs. Bamford for a few years now,

even if only in name. That horse trainer might be on your level, but she's still nowhere near as skilled as you—"

"Shut your mouth!" Angela's voice shot up, her gaze turning cold and fierce as she stared down at Shelley, who

had no idea what was coming. "Are you asking for trouble, Ms. Rutherford?"

"Why would | be? I'm just being honest, aren't I?" Shelley's voice dripped with mock innocence, clearly pleased

with herself for getting under Angela's skin.

"I'm only trying to help, Ms. Graham. You really shouldn't associate with people who drag you down," she added.

Shelley didn't think she had said anything out of line. A smug expression crossed her face as if she were savoring

every second of their unease.

The real business hadn't even started, but she was already looking for a chance to put Angela and Mia in their

place.

Just then, Angela suddenly waved toward a group of women nearby. "Ladies! Would you mind coming over for a

second?"

Her move

caught everyone by surprise-especially Shelley. The women approached slowly, polite smiles in place, though

their eyes gleamed with curiosity. They were eager to see where this was going.

Arms crossed, Angela looked entirely unbothered by the previous exchange.

She addressed the group coolly.

"Ms. Rutherford was just mocking Ms. Spencer for being a lowly horse trainer andfor being nothing more

than a desperate bootlicker. She clearly doesn't think much of us.

"If that's the case, we might as well leave. We wouldn't want to bring the mood down or ruin the experience for

Ms. Rutherford."

Angela was serious about leaving. Why stay when the mood had already been spoiled?

Mia followed her lead. "I didn't realize Ms. Rutherford dislikedthis much. Maybe she'd prefer someone else to

assist her."

Their exchange left the others momentarily stunned. Shelley was known for being sharp-tongued, but insulting

people to their faces was a step too far.

Everyone exchanged uncertain looks, silently questioning whether Shelley had lost her mind. Of all the people to

pick a fight with, she had chosen a Bamford.

"What is she thinking? Ms. Graham

and Ms. Spencer are both

wonderful. I've always enjoyed their

company. What makes Ms.

Rutherford act like she's above

everyone else?"

"Exactly. Ms. Graham is beautiful and kind. | don't see how she could have done anything to offend Ms.

Rutherford."
