Chapter 112 Logan stood at the door, his face devoid of any smile.
Get 5> #Menu Ever since we broke up, every encounter between us seemed to ignite mutual anger. But this time, the situation was worse-here I was, playfully bantering with Ashton while Selene stood beside Logan, Logan had once claimed to have cut ties with Selene, but clearly, his word was as reliable as the wind. I recovered from the shock quickly, averting my gaze. Speople were simply an eyesore, and the saying "Out of sight, out of mind" couldn't have been more fitting.
Ashton ignored Logan entirely. He held my hand but didn't try to take my phone again. Instead, he said in a casual yet affectionate tone, "If you're set on taking pictures, I can promise you better ones another day." His words were suggestive, the kind that couples who had been together for a long twould exchange. Logan took two menacing steps forward, his voice sharp as he shouted, "Elaine." He called my nas if he were a king summoning a subject, completely disregarding Selene, who stood stiffly beside him.
Without sparing him a glance, I said curtly, "I'm busy." And I truly was-I had to stay with Ashton while he received his IV drip.
The next moment, Logan reached out to grab me, trying to forceto listen to him.
But before his hand could make contact, Ashton intercepted him, gripping Logan's wrist firmly.
Tension crackled in the air as the two men locked eyes, silently challenging each other.
I quickly realized that things couldn't go on like this-not with Ashton still hooked up to an IV. Even though Ashton could easily overpower Logan, a fight would only disrupt his treatment.
Knowing I couldn't step in without escalating the situation further, I turned my gaze to Selene, whose expression had darkened.
"Aren't you going to do something?" I snapped at her.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtSelene remained frozen in place, visibly uncomfortable. I glared at her sharply, and though I wasn't sure how intimidating I looked, it was enough to make her shiver and react.
She scurried over to Logan, tugging on his arm. “Logan, I don't feel well. We need to get my IV started," she said meekly.
Her words caught my attention. Selene was here for an IV drip? That was rare for a pregnant woman, considering the potential risks to the baby.
Before I could dwell on it, a nearby nurse called out, "Prenatal care IV? This way, please." The late hour meant the infusion room was nearly empty, so there was no mistaking who the nurse was calling. 'Prenatal care?' My gaze instinctively shifted to Selene's belly. Was her baby in danger? Selene clung tighter to Logan, her voice weak. "Logan, the doctor's calling me." 29 16:05 27.65% < Chapter 112 Reluctantly, Logan pulled away from Ashton and followed Selene. He cast one last glare in my direction, simmering with rage.
I could tell he wanted to settle scores withand fight Ashton to the death, but Selene's delicate state forced him to suppress his anger and leave.
Logan had always been pampered as the second heir to the Mercers. He never yielded to anyone. And yet, here he was, yielding to Selene.
He wouldn't have done it if he didn't love her deeply. But if he loved her, why did he still get jealous every the sawwith Ashton, especially when Selene was right there? Logan's relationship with Selene was a puzzle I didn't have the energy to solve. I turned to Ashton and said, "Focus on your IV drip." Ashton sat down again, and I resumed my seat beside him. But the playful atmosphere we'd shared earlier had vanished.
From my spot, I could overhear the nurse speaking to Selene as she administered her. Even if wanted to, I couldn't ignore their conversation.
From what the nurse said, I learned that Selene had fallen at the amusement park, which had caused c omplications with her pregnancy.
So something had happened after all, but who could she blame? She had brought it on herself Once the nurse inserted the needle into Selene's hand, she shuffled over for her IV drip with Logan's support. They sat directly across from Ashton and me.
It felt as though Logan wouldn't be satisfied until he had caused more of a scene.
He stayed silent at first, but I knew it wouldn't last. Barely two minutes passed before he blurted out, "Elaine, why did you bring him htonight?" I had anticipated this. Of course, Logan would lash out over what had happened.
"It means I'm starting a new chapter," I replied calmly.
"With him?" Logan asked, his disdain for Ashton clear in his tone.
"Yes, with him," I said firmly, placing my hand over Ashton's.
Logan let out a dry laugh. “Elaine, con. Your ear always turns red when you lie. Try again when you've grown out of that habit." I had forgotten about that tell of mine until he mentioned it. My hand instinctively moved toward my ear but stopped midway. I couldn't let him see any guilt or hesitation. Otherwise, all of Ashton's and my efforts to maintain this facade would have been for nothing.
I stared at Logan, refusing to back down. He stared back, his anger subsiding into a sly smile. It was clear he didn't believe me.
"Her ears also turn red when she's angry," Ashton suddenly said.
Logan shot him a cold glare, as if to say it wasn't his place to intervene.
But Ashton's words remindedof something important: my ears turned red when I was angry too. So, there was no need to feel guilty now.

"Every tI see you, my ears turn red, Logan," I said, my voice calm and deliberate.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmLogan's fury flared momentarily, but he quickly suppressed it. Instead, he sneered. "You're my woman, and you're just using this to makeangry." How shameless! Calling"his woman" was both blatant and misleading. And judging by Selene's dark expression, my point was proven.
Before I could respond, Ashton reached for my hand. I felt a warm touch as he kissed the back of it.
The simple gesture stunned me.
Ashton's deliberate action had shut Logan up completely. Although| knew we were just putting on a show, I couldn't help but blush at the lingering warmth of Ashton's kiss. Logan, however, couldn't contain his rage. He shot up from his seat, but Selene grabbed his arm before he could do anything.
With tears streaming down her cheeks, she said, "I just want to get an IV drip peacefully. If you don't want to stay with me, I won't get one anymore." Her trembling hands reached for the IV, but Logan stopped her.
Her tears fell like rain, each drop hitting the floor as if it were the sound of her heart breaking.
Logan's anger dissipated. He calmed down and sat back down, silently comforting Selene. Meanwhile, Ashton's IV drip was finished. I called the nurse to remove the needle. Ashton's clothes were a little messy, so I reached out to smooth them. I could feel Logan's burning gaze on us.
Determined to make him back down, I made a bold decision.
Grabbing Ashton's collar, I pulled him down and kissed him on the lips. My head tilted up as our lips met.
