Chapter 254 Now That's a Slap I glanced at Elsa and curled my lips into a faint smile. "Did I hit you?" Elsa buried her face in Mom's embrace, her sobs filled with grievance. "Jane, I haven't even done anything to upset you lately. Why are you treatinglike this? If you don't wantto join the company, I won't. Will that do?" Then, she lifted her head, her expression full of accusation. "What have I ever done to offend you? Why do you have to be so cruel to me?" I looked at her quietly, taking slow, deliberate steps toward her. She stared right back at me, her eyes flashing with provocation.
Mom, trying to smooth things over, said in a gentle voice, "Jae, no matter what happened, you shouldn't have hit Elsa. We're all family. Can't you two just talk things through?" After hearing that, I turned to Mom, my expression innocent. "Mom, Elsa and I were in the back garden just now. I saw a mosquito on her face and was just swatting it away. I barely even used any force." Elsa clearly hadn't expectedto admit to anything so easily. Her eyes widened in shock.
The next second, she clutched her cheek, her tears flowing instantly. "Jane, even if that's the case, you could've at least warned me! Look at my face now. How am I supposed to face anyone? There's a banquet hosted by the competition organizers in a few days. What if my face hasn't healed by then?" Right on cue, Jack stepped forward, towering overwith a look of righteous fury. "You owe Elsa an explanation," he demanded.
I tilted my head and smiled coldly.

"Jane, are you insane? Why the hell did you hit me?" he roared.
I had used all my strength in that slap. His face was visibly swelling, all red and puffy.
I took a step back, easily dodging Jack's incoming hand. I then turned to Elsa with a smile. "See?" I said lightly.
Elsa instinctively glanced at Jack's swollen face.
I continued, my tone casual, "I told you, I was just swatting a mosquito. Look, your face isn't even red anymore." "But this..." I gestured toward Jack's swollen cheek. "This is what a real slap looks like. He'll be lucky if the swelling goes down by tomorrow." Elsa probably hadn't expectedto turn the situation around like this. She stood there, stunned, at a complete loss for words.
Well, she only had herself to blame. If she had hit herself harder, I might have had to bring out my voice recorder.
After a long moment of silent eye contact, Elsa finally lowered her head and muttered, "I guess I misunderstood Jane..." Her voice was laced with reluctance.
However, Jack was still fuming. "Jane, how dare you hit me? Do you have a death wish?" The moment the words left his mouth, he raised his hand again, ready to strike. But before he could do anything, Eric stepped in, blocking him and pullingbehind him protectively.
Jack knew he wasn't a match for Eric. His fists were clenched, but he could only glare at me. At that moment, a phrase popped into my head-"powerless rage".

Forced to swallow his anger, he could only shoota venomous glare.
I shrugged, then turned and walked away.
On the drive home, Eric's voice was soft but firm in the car. "Next tI'm not around, don't do anything that reckless."
I knew he was talking about how I had provoked Jack earlier. Csmiled, "But you're always here, aren't you?" He didn't answer. Instead, his serious gaze met mine.
I raised my hands in surrender, relenting with a playful mod "Fine, fine if you're not around, I promise I'll prioritize my own safety."
A hint of coyness slipped into my tone as I I voice oke. I added in a softer voice, "Is that good enough?"
