Chapter 255 Not Interested in Second Place Before long, I received an official invitation from the organizers. All the finalists were invited to attend, and we could even bring family members.

Elsa wanted us all to witness her moment of triumph. However, my parents couldn't make it as they had to leave the country on short notice. I didn't refuse. I accepted right away.

The only problem was having both Shirley and Jane appear at the sevent without anyone noticing the connection.

After cracking that near-impossible puzzle, an unfamiliar number lit up my phone. I picked up, only to hear Liliana's voice on the other end. "Ms. Brown, I've thought it over. I'm willing to help you." On the night of the banquet, I arrived in a gown of my own design, my face mostly concealed by an intricate mask that covered two-thirds of it. Tonight, I was Shirley, the designer.

Elsa had already arrived.

As the runner-up, she was surrounded by people showering her with praise. Jack stood proudly behind her, looking smug.

The moment I stepped in, the energy in the room shifted. After all, I was the only one wearing a mask, exuding an air of mystery.

"Who just walked in? Why are they so wrapped up like that?" "With that temperament? She's definitely someone important. She doesn't look like a plus-one, though." Then, someone noticed the ntag pinned to my chest.

A collective gasp swept through the crowd.

"Oh my gosh! That's Shirley, the famous designer! She actually came!" "I thought she just joined the competition for fun, like spro strolling into a newbie arena. I never expected her to show up in person!" "So mysterious! I was hoping to finally see what she looks like, but she went and masked up!" All eyes turned to me. Even those who had been eagerly chatting with Elsa lost interest in her.

A flicker of jealousy crossed Elsa's face, only to be replaced by something else when she looked atundisguised admiration.

She pushed through the crowd, making her way toward me. Extending a hand, she greetedwith a polite smile. "Hello, Shirley. I'm the second-place winner of this competition." I let out a soft chuckle. "Oh? And?" I had deliberately lowered my voice, making it sound noticeably different from usual.

Elsa clearly hadn't expected that response. A flicker of embarrassment crossed her face, but she quickly forced her smile back into place.

"My nis Elsa," she said. "I wonder if you remember me?" I shook my head, the mask on my face doing an excellent job of hiding my amusement. "I don't usually pay much attention to second-place winners." A ripple of murmurs spread through the crowd.

"Now that's what you call a powerhouse move. The Brown family's precious daughter cup all eager, and Shirley just dismissed her like she's nothing." "Isn't it obvious? She's trying to cling to Shirley, hoping to get ahead. As if no one can see through it."

"I heard Shirley has a bit of a temper, and it looks like the the rumors were true.

Good thing didn't try to introduce myself just now." Elsa's face alternated red and pale as whispers filled the air.

Jack bristled with anger behind her. He then stepped forward, blocking my path, "What's the big deal? You're just a designer. Who do you think you are, looking down on others like this?"

Elsa tugged at his sleeve, frowning as she turned back to me. "I sincerelyapologize. I just wanted to introduce myself. My brother spoilsa little too much. He thought you were being mean to me." Then, she glanced at Jack. "Jack, don't be upset. I'm fine. Let Shirley go inside." Her words seemed considerate, but she made no real effort to hold Jack back. If anything, it felt like she was giving him free rein to stand in my way.

I instantly understood that these two had planned this in advance.
