Chapter 165 Evelyn's breath hitched slightly as she furrowed her brows, glancing at Blake.

Then, her gaze moved to Lucas, who was still coldly indifferent. He had no interest in whatever was happening between Evelyn and Blake.

She noticed it was likely because Blake had mentioned the word "wife" that Lucas subtly furrowed his brows. Before he could speak, his phone rang again. Lucas glanced at the screen, saw it was a call from Tiffany, and answered.

His expression softened significantly as he said, "Alright, I'll head back now." Evelyn could easily tell the shift in his mood from how soft his voice was.

He hadn't responded to Blake but nodded at Evelyn before quickly leaving. It was as though she were a stranger to him.

It was clear that only Tiffany could make him react that way.

Evelyn quietly withdrew her gaze. As someone personally involved in the situation, no one could understand the subtle mockery and indifference from Lucas and Blake better than her.

As for Blake's words and attitude, she had given up on asking him for help. She did not say anything else and left.

Blake stood in place, watching her retreating figure.

She seemed weak, so thin and delicate that a gust of wind could break her.

He frowned abruptly, taking a deep drag from his cigarette to suppress the unease rising in his chest.

He convinced himself it was just a fleeting illusion.

In the end, Evelyn was unable to meet Fergus, causing her mood to inevitably dip.

Scanning the room, she couldn't spot anyone who resembled the distinguished expert she was looking for.

As the dinner cto an end, people began to leave, one by one.

With no other options, Evelyn decided to brainstorm a new plan while Justine went to get the car.

Evelyn stood at the door, waiting.

The cold winds of winter sliced through Clementon, and despite being bundled in a long puffer jacket she'd prepared in advance, she still felt a chill deep in her bones.

The sound of approaching voices broke her out of her thoughts.

Evelyn glanced up and paused. She saw Brandon and a young man emerging from the hall.

When Brandon saw Evelyn, he shot her a cold, dismissive look before quickly diverting his gaze. He did not make any attempt to acknowledge her.

Evelyn, of course, couldn't be bothered with him, either. She cast a casual glance at the man beside Brandon instead.

She didn't recognize him, but given that he was familiar with Brandon, he was undoubtedly someone from the upper echelons of society.

The man had an impressive air about him, his features strikingly handsand impossible to ignore. Noticing her gaze, he raised his eyes and looked at her.

Evelyn was about to shift her gaze, but he nodded toward her. It was an acknowledgment of her curiosity. She was taken aback, expecting someone close to Brandon to be just as dismissive toward her. She never expected Brandon's acquaintance to be polite and chivalrous.

Justine honked the horn as she pulled up in the car, snapping Evelyn out of her thoughts.

As Evelyn entered the car, she put the brief encounter at the back of her mind.

Inside the car, she closed her eyes for a moment, her thoughts drifting to her mother's wedding ring.

She couldn't, and wouldn't, take the risk.

If Lucas had really planned to give that ring to Tiffany, it would be an enormous humiliation and a bitter insult to both Evelyn and the Reeds. Millie had done so much to betray Naomi, and Tiffany was now destroying Evelyn's marriage.

No matter what it took, Tiffany could not wear Naomi's wedding ring.

Evelyn dialed Lucas' number, but he didn't answer.

1. Even though she m e dialed again, he refused to answer.

She wasn't sure if he was deliberately avoiding the call or whether he m simply hadn't noticed it, but she was too tired to care. Turning to Justine, Evelyn said, "Justy, taketo the Grant Manor." Lucas wasn't picking up, but the issue had to be resolved. She had to see him.

Justine understood her intention and nodded gravely.

During the drive, Evelyn took out her laptop and began to modify ssystem codes in the backseat.
