Chapter 195 Lucas' calm, unhurried demeanor seemed to exude understanding and certainty.
Michael paused to consider before agreeing with Lucas' words.
Evelyn was merely putting up a stubborn front. After all, he could clearly see how much she still cared about Lucas.
Even if they were now divorced, one couldn't simply stop loving. Evelyn was merely pretending to be strong. Who knew-she might actually treasure everything that belonged to Lucas as if it were priceless? Just as Lucas was about to stand up, his phone rang with a call from Maria.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHe rubbed his temples before answering. "Have you had lunch yet?" Maria snorted. "You still care about me, huh?" Lucas adjusted his tie slightly and replied with a half-smile, "I feel rather wronged by that remark." "Quit with the wisecracks! You haven't been back to seelately. Ever since Valentine's Day, neither you nor Evie have reached out. You haven't done anything to upset her, have you?" The more she thought about it, the more uneasy she became.
She had made arrangements to set up the perfect atmosphere for the couple on Valentine's Day, and the hotel even confirmed that Evelyn didn't leave until the next day. Logically, that encounter should have ignited swarmth between the two.
Yet somehow, there was no news from them.
Lucas raised his eyebrows. He tapped the desk and said, "I don't think so." They had just gone to the courthouse...
Maria snapped, "Enough already! You're almost 30 now. When exactly are you going to have a child with Evie? Weren't you always fond of kids?" Lucas had once been quite fond of children, but ever since he married Evelyn, he had becunwilling to have any. Their relationship was lukewarm as well.
How could they be married for three years and still not have a baby? Now, they were approaching for years, and Maria felt compelled to push the issue! Not once did Lucas mention anything about divorce. He replied slowly, "I don't have that on the agenda at the moment." Maria retorted, "You little brat! No wonder Evie always dodges the topic. It's all on you!" After all, what could a wife do if her husband was unwilling? Lucas did not retort.
After a long sigh, Maria continued, "It's your responsibility. Don't giveany excuses. Bring Evie hfor a few days when you can. That's final." Without leaving any room for refusal, she quickly hung up.
Lucas glanced at the screen and shrugged it off.
Evelyn had just stepped out of Flying Seal Group when she received Michael's reply. He only mentioned that Lucas would handle it as soon as possible. However, no exact twas given.
She felt helpless, especially since she didn't even have Lucas' new number to contact him directly. Even if Lucas intended to ignore her, she wouldn't be able to do anything about it.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmEvelyn frowned, deciding she wouldn't bother with it. After all, when the house eventually sold, she couldn't be blamed for not reminding him.
That evening, Evelyn had a project networking event. She would need to discuss the plans in detail with Donald and the others.
The meeting was arranged at a golf club. Sebastian had been called away on a last-minute assignment. He was driving back and would be late, so he told her to go ahead on her own.
Justine couldn't handle the project's technical issues either, so she was the only one who could attend.
Feeling rather exhausted, she opted not to drive and instead hailed a cab straight to the destination. Upon arriving, Evelyn provided Sebastian's membership credentials, and someone escorted her inside. She then caught a shuttle to the golf course.
Evelyn had just gotten out of the vehicle when she immediately heard cheerful laughter coming from not far away. As she turned her head to look, she noticed that the group over there had also seen her. There, Tiffany was swinging her club as she played golf. Lucas, seated with his legs crossed while chatting with Jason, turned his head upon spotting her.
Nearby, Mason, who was holding a club over his shoulder, tilted his head and smiled after seeing Evelyn. "Evelyn, are you still that clingy even after your divorce?" he teased.
