Chapter 202 Evelyn did not quite get what Justine was getting at.
"What's wrong? The full payment has already cthrough, and the project is up and running. What do you think?" Justine looked even more baffled. "I went to the recorder's office today. You know how my dad boughttwo apartments? I went to handle the paperwork for them. Guess who I ran into?" "Who?" "Michael, Lucas' assistant," Justine said, still in disbelief. "He was there handling sreal estate matters for Lucas. I asked one of the employees about it, and they toldthe property Michael was dealing with was at Peninsula Heights." Evelyn's expression slowly stiffened. Peninsula Heights was where their marital hwas. What did that even mean? A trace of disbelief flickered across Evelyn's face. She immediately pulled out her phone and messaged the agent who had helped her list the property for sale.
The agent typed, "Ms. Reed, the buyer's identity is confidential, but the person who cto sign for it was with the Pine last name." Well, there was no more doubt about it. The buyer of the marital hwas Lucas.
She had put the house up for sale, and he had silently bought it back. It was no wonder that, on the day the sale was finalized, he had asked her that odd question.
"It really was him?" Justine looked just as surprised.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtEvelyn frowned deeply, completely at a loss. He had already signed the house over to her. If she chose to sell it, that was her right.
Why would he buy it back? She could not wrap her head around it. Still, the sale had gone through, and the funds had solved Flying Seal Group's urgent financial need.
As she was finishing work for the day, Evelyn got a call from Michael.
"Ms. Reed, are you free tonight? Mr. Grant would like you to cto Peninsula Heights," Michael said in a tone that left little room for discussion.
Evelyn did not think much of the house situation and responded calmly, "If he has something to say, he can just say it." "You'll understand once you're there. Per the terms of the divorce agreement, we hope you'll cooperate," Michael replied, not offering any more details.
Since the divorce agreement did include a clause requiring her cooperation within the first year, it was clear that this must be something important.
Evelyn gently rubbed her temple. "Got it." Bound by the terms, she headed to the house after work. When she arrived at her former marital home, she instinctively keyed in the old code.
A beep sound rang. Access denied. That was when it hit her. Lucas had bought the house back, and of course, had changed the code immediately.
He moved fast-faster than she had expected.
Still, aside from tonight's meeting, she had not planned on ever returning. He did not need to "guard" the place from her.
Her expression did not change much. Realizing the code was useless, she rang the doorbell instead.
It took a while, but finally, the door opened.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmLucas stood there, his eyes as unreadable as ever. His tone was just as calm and familiar. "Just got off work?" Evelyn froze for a second. He had just taken a shower.
Wearing only a loosely tied bathrobe, his well-defined chest was partly exposed, the lines of his torso faintly visible beneath.
She quickly looked away. "What do you need to talk about?" Lucas turned and glanced at her. "You're not coming in?" Evelyn frowned slightly.
Leaning casually against the kitchen island, Lucas gave a soft chucklen "What are you so afraid of? You think I'd eat you alive?" Evelyn pressed her lips together, ignoring the jab. "Where do you want me?"
"Up to you," he said lazily, clearly amused by how distant and formal she was being.
Evelyn decided not to bother. There would be housekeepers to clean up later anyway. "Want something to drink?" Lucas asked.
