Chapter 287 2/2 The Secret Pregnancy of the Billionaire's Ex-Wife Chapter 287: The Man Standing Between Us Angela Pov I forced myself to remain calm as the woman with the scarred face stood before us, her revelation sending shocked whispers through our wedding guests. The last thing I wanted was to escalate his confrontation and create more fodder for tomorrow's tabloids.

"Jennifer," I said, keeping my voice steady, "you shouldn't make accusations without proof. Five years ago, I left New York immediately after what happened. I couldn't possibly have arranged anything from prison. Whatever happened to your face has nothing to do with me." Her eyes narrowed, ice-blue irises practically glowing with hatred. "Don't you dare deny it! My first month in prison, two women corneredduring dinner. They followedto the bathroom, pinnedto the floor, and took a fork to my face." She gestured wildly at her scars. "They said it was a lesson that I shouldn't mess with people above my station. Who else would hatethis much? I only kicked you once!" Only kickedonce. The casual way she described it made my blood boil. That "one kick" nearly causedto lose my twins. But arguing about this in front of everyone wouldn't help. I glanced around the ballroom-Victoria was holding Aria's hand tightly, both of them watching with wide, frightened eyes. Ethan stood close to Alexander, his small face unnaturally serious.

Taking a deep breath, I gathered my composure. "I'm truly sorry about what happened to your face, but whether you believe it or not, I had nothing to do with it. If you need a plastic surgeon, I'd be happy to recommend one." As the words left my mouth, I cast a questioning glance at Sean. Could he have arranged this? But that seemed impossible-back then, he hadn't known I was pregnant, hadn't known the full extent of what Jennifer's actions had done to me. Would he have gone to such extremes for revenge? It didn't seem like him, but then again, five years ago I thought I knew him completely.

Sean seemed to catch my unspoken question. He quickly shook his head. "This has nothing to do witheither," he said firmly.

He turned to Jennifer, his voice low but authoritative. "I'll say this once more-if you're here to celebrate with us, you're welcome. If you're here to cause trouble, security will escort you out." With a subtle nod from Sean, two security guards moved forward, positioning themselves on either side of Jennifer.

"You're lying!" she shouted as they began to lead her away. "Both of you! You can't just dismisslike this!" Her voice rose to a shrill pitch as the guards firmly guided her toward the exit.

I stood frozen, mortification washing over me. Our perfect wedding, ruined by this spectacle. Guests were already whispering among themselves, no doubt discussing what they'd just witnessed. Aria had been looking forward to this day for weeks-what kind of psychological impact would this have on the children? Sean leaned close to my ear, his voice low. "This is my fault. I should have increased security." Then he added reassuringly, "Don't worry, there won't be any gossip about our wedding in tomorrow's news." I nodded at him but couldn't help asking, "Was it really not you?" His eyes widened in surprise. "How could it be? She probably offended the prison's lady boss and got taught a lesson. Isn't that common in prisons?" I turned back to the dance floor, plastering on a smile as if nothing bad happened. "The night is still young, I announced, holding out my hands to Aria and Ethan. "Who wants to dance with Mommy Aria hesitated, then ran to me, with Ethan following more cautiously I twirled them around the dance floor, trying desperately to restore the joyful atmosphere. Sean returned to the piano, his finger dancing across the keys, playing an upbeat melody. We were both working so hard to salvage what remained of our celebration.

1/2 Chapter 287: The Man Standing Between Us Then the unthinkable happencil.

A commotion erupted near the entrance, Jennifer had somehow broken free from the security guards. She pushed through the crowd, charging directly toward where I stood with the children. As he drew closer, I saw something glinting in her hand-a Inuit knife, its blade smeared with blood. One of the guards must have been injured in her escape.

I heard Sean and my father shouting my name, their voices cutting o.m through the sudden screams of guests. The room descended into chaos, people scrambling to get out of Jennifer's path.

Terror seized me. I had no tto think, only to react. I turned my ack toward Jennifer, wrapping my arms tightly around/Aria and Ethan, shielding them with my body. I closed my eyes, bracing for the pain of the blade, my only thought protecting my children. But the impact never came.

Instead, I heard Jennifer's frustrated scream-"Let go!"-followed by them sound of a struggle and then her body hitting the floor. When I finally turned around, my heart nearly stopped.

Standing between us and Jennifer was neither Sean nor my father.

It was Christopher.
